10 TV Couples We Wished Were Real

They made us laugh, sometimes they made us cry.
Through the good and the bad, the ups and the downs, they always managed to stay in love....and we loved them!

Our top 10 choices of Television Couples we wished were real.

Happy Valentine's Day!

10) Fred & Ethel Mertz
I Love Lucy 1951 - 1957
played by Vivian Vance & William Frawley

Fred & Ethel Mertz, neighbors and best friends of Lucy & Ricky Ricardo.
It seemed like the Mertzes were inseparable, and boy did they put on a good show together. Long live the team of Mertz & Mertz!
Sure, Fred made a few cracks about Ethel's weight. And Ethel forever whined about what a cheapskate Fred was, but it was all in good fun.
When a heated argument put their marriage in jeopardy, it wasn't long before Ethel was crying for Fred and Fred knew he couldn't be apart from his "Honeybunch".
*Sadly, in real life, William Frawley & Vivan Vance despised each other. Vivian Vance hated the fact that William Frawley was 22 years her senior and felt that "he should play her father". When Frawley got wind of the remark, the feud began. It has been rumored that upon learning of Frawley's death in 1966, while dining out, Vivian Vance ordered a round of champagne for everyone at her table.

9) Eric Foreman & Donna Pinciotti
That 70's Show 1998 - 2006
played by Topher Grace & Laura Prepon
Beauty & the Geek.
Neighbors Donna & Eric lost their virginity to each other in the backseat of Eric's car.
When Donna eventually told Eric she loved him, he responded by saying
"I love cake".
Soon after, Eric confessed his love for Donna.
Through the years we watched  Donna & Eric have great times in high school, at backyard parties & in pot smoking circles.
Later in the series, their relationship was on the rocks. Eric never showed for their wedding and moved to Africa shortly after.
Much to our relief, Eric returned for the final season of That 70's Show to tell Donna how much he loved her.

8) Homer & Marge Simpson
The Simpsons 1989 - present
voiced by Dan Castellaneta &  Julie Kavner
One of our favorite Doh-mances, Marge & Homer met in High School. Although the year they met & the way they met has changed several times (to accommodate the length of the series and their lack of aging) the two have always been sweethearts.
It's a safe bet to believe that Homer probably couldn't function without Marge.
Even though Homer has made every mistake a husband could make (and then some), Marge always forgives her "Homie".

7) Al & Peg Bundy
Married with Children 1987 - 1997
played by Ed O'Neill & Katey Sagal
Another pair of high school sweethearts who met at Polk High School and married after graduation.
When America was introduced to Al & Peggy they seemed anything but happy.
Al worked all day at the shoe store, while Peggy sat on the couch eating bon-bons and watching Oprah.
Peggy loathed the thought of cooking and cleaning, while Al loathed the thought having "marital relations" with Peggy.
For frequent watchers of Married with Children, we learned in rare moments that Al and Peggy really did love each other very much.
Can I get a "Whoa Bundy!"

6) Dan & Roseanne Connor
Roseanne 1988 - 1997
played by Roseanne Barr & John Goodman
Everyone's favorite working class couple Dan & Roseanne Connor have literally been through everything together. Four children, financial woes, awful in-laws, changing jobs, changing children, even winning the lottery.
Through thick and thin (pun intended), Dan & Roseanne kept their spirits through wisecracks.
Whatever the circumstance, Dan & Roseanne loved each other dearly and were never afraid to show it.

5) Rob & Laura Petrie
The Dick Van Dyke Show 1961 - 1966
played by Dick Van Dyke & Mary Tyler Moore
The quintessential 1960's couple Rob & Laura lived in New Rochelle, NY with their cute as a button son Richie.
Rob & Laura met when Rob was in the army and Laura was a dancer at the USO. While dancing together Rob accidentally broke her foot.
Despite the many other minor mishaps of their life, such as Laura dying her hair half blond, a sleepwalking brother, a demanding boss, an ugly dog, a closet full of walnuts and a stolen Bupkis song, the two managed to stay madly in love, all while looking fabulous.

4) Heathcliff & Clair Huxtable
The Cosby Show 1984 - 1992
played by Bill Cosby & Phylicia Rashad
The perfect couple, with the perfect marriage with the perfect family who lived in a perfect Brownstone in Brooklyn Heights, NY.
Heathcliff was a doctor, Clair an attorney.
A match made in heaven, they attended the same college, loved the same music and were an equal match of wits.
Family problems, big or small, were solved by Cliff & Clair in half hour or less, with good advice, a good laugh and a lesson learned by all.
Any child of the 80's would have been thrilled to have been a Huxtable kid.

3) Carol & Mike Brady
The Brady Bunch 1969 - 1974
played by Florence Henderson & Robert Reed
I think it's safe to say we all know the story of this lovely lady and a man named Brady.
We know them, we loved them, we wanted to be them......but maybe without the six kids.
Let's keep Alice around though.

2) Archie & Edith Bunker
All in the Family 1971 - 1979
played by Carol O'Connor & Jean Stapelton
He was a bigot, she was a dingbat.
Archie & Edith were the perfect team. He said anything that came to mind and she was the voice of reason.
Together they dealt with a whiny daughter, a liberal Meathead son-in-law, ethnic neighbors, rape, menopause, some stifling and one very important chair.
Although it seemed that Archie took advantage of Edith's good nature, he loved Edith more than anything in the world.
In 1980 we felt Archie's deep  pain when Edith died.
Crying, Archie said: "You had no right to leave me that way, without giving me just one more chance to say I love you"
(sniff, sniff)

1) Ralph & Alice Kramden
The Honeymooners 1955 - 1956
played by Jackie Gleason & Audrey Meadows
Although Ralph must have willed Alice "to the moon" a hundred times, we know he'd have been lost without her.
An unlikely couple, Ralph & Alice lived in a run down Brooklyn, NY apartment in near poverty conditions. (although Ralph felt that they lived in the lap of luxury)
Ralph a bus driver, and Alice a housewife seemed to bicker about everything.
While fighting, both Ralph and Alice let the insults fly, Alice usually getting the best of Ralph.
But, no matter what was said and what was done, Ralph and Alice always made up with a great big kiss and Ralph telling Alice "Baby, you're the greatest".

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow.......
No, thank you.
The winter of 2013 - 2014 is the worst I can personally remember.
Sub-zero temperatures, whipping winds, followed by what feels like snow every other day. The flakes are falling as I type.

Earlier in the week, as my car was stuck on ice, mid-hill, wheels spinning, I tried to remember the days I would wish & hope for snow.
Even the hint of snow meant snowmen, snowball fights, snow forts and most importantly SNOW DAYS!

Here's to a happier time where frozen fingers, a runny nose and snow in my pants was so much better than sitting in a warm & dry classroom all day.
